A STUDY TOUR TO JOÃO PESSOA / PB

Our study trip to João Pessoa with Tristão de Barros 2nd grades high school, on October 5th was unforgettable. We left at about 3:30 A.M and got João Pessoa at 8:10 A.M. There we could visit many wonderful cultural places in several points of the city. We were divided in two groups, in two buses, and passed all day knowing the history and the culture of the city.

We first learned that João Pessoa has already been denominated of 4 other names before the current one: Nossa Senhora das Neves, Felipeia, Frederica, Parayba and - finally - João Pessoa, though some people defend the back of the ancient name Paraiba, the same denomination of the State. In this ocasion, the students could visit the Praça dos Três Poderes and the palaces of state government and the parliament, besides the Faculdade de Direito.

Then we went to Conjunto São Francisco (São Francisco Monastery), whose photos can show the beauty and the art in the History's Course. Many works of art we found there, many histories, a large culture diversity that only can be explained by themselves. This was really a great moment of the tour.

After that we went to the Ponto do Seixas (The Extreme East of Brazil) and the Cabo Branco Lighthouse with an innovative architeture. Following our City Tour we got to the Science Station whose sight to the beach is terrific. A very nice place, too. After that, we went having lunch.

In the afternoon, we visited the Mercado de Artesanato (Handicraft Market) with many gifts we can take to the friends or relatives. A very pleasant place with 149 stores in many segments.

Maybe the top point of this visit was the Energy Company "Energisa", that distributes electricity to the state of Paraiba. Many curiosities were explained by the instructors and many experiences were made. The students payed attention to the information and asked many questions to them. We learned about the history of energy since 5th Century 5th to the 21st Century, as well as about the ancient ways of energy, as we can see in all the photographs.

The ultimate visit was to the Zoo, when many pupils became impressed about the snakes, lions, tiger, monkeys, aligators and the many kind of birds.

We got back Currais Novos at about 10 o'clock P.M.

It was really a unique experience.
